MET involves the subject to voluntarily contract the muscle in a precisely controlled direction against the therapist’s counter force. Its therapeutic effects are to reduce pain, reduce muscle tone, stretch tightened muscles, strengthen the weak muscles, improve local circulation and mobilize joint restrictions. The reduction in pain intensity in the groups is attributed to the effects of MET which is explained by the inhibitory Golgi tendon reflex, activated during the isometric contraction that in turn leads to the reflex relaxation of the muscles.
