Welcome to The Body Buddha

Margery "MB" Iliria, Founder/owner, educator, Muscle Energy and Soft Tissue Specialist.

I have nearly 30 years in the Sports Medicine Industry.  I am a former certified athletic trainer who specializes in movement restoration using Muscle Energy Technique (MET).  This tool was designed to improve musculoskeletal function through mobilizing joints and stretching tight muscles and fascia, to reduce pain, improve circulation and lymphatic flow.  The wonderful thing about MET is it can be used for any condition where to goal is to improve relaxation, lengthen the muscles while improving range of motion.  Muscle energy technique is a form of manual therapy in which we will activate the muscles own energy to induce the desired outcome.
Who can benefit from my services?  If you have injuries, or suffer from chronic conditions, need to regain your range of motion, manage pain, or simply want to improve your quality of life this is the place for you.  I have held a critical role in not only treating musculoskeletal conditions, but also in educating clients about the importance of movement for their general wellbeing, fitness and injury prevention.

Employment History:

  • Graduate Assistant – The University of Tennessee, Knoxville while earning an M.S. in Human Performance and Sport Management.
  • United State Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs where I worked with developmental athletes, elite and World Class Athletes, Senior Athletes and Paralympic Athletes.  It’s there I was introduced to all the aliments Muscle Energy Technique can help.
  • The University of Arizona, I was able to over time develop an evaluative and treatment protocol which will meet your Health and Wellness needs/goals.  I will focus on your overall needs by evaluating how you both present and move.

My approach is holistic.  Working with The Body Buddha you will understand its where Eastern Medicine marries Western Medicine. I compare your movement and physical abilities to what is considered functional corrected movement.  I use not only MET, but include exercise prescription, strength and conditional as well neuromuscular facilitation techniques.  This will be a whole-body experience and together we will change your perceived pain as we address as many dysfunctions as I can uncover.

Soft Tissue Work

Soft tissue mobilization is a form of manual therapy. This is where I will use a hands on approach to optimize movement and your muscular function by working on your muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia.

Corrective Movement

This is a technique that leverages the understanding of anatomy, kinesiology and biomechanics to address and improve your movement compensation and imbalances so your overall quality of movement of everyday living and exercise routine.

Live your best life by restoring movement while decreasing pain

Reduction of pain

This is a benefit of soft tissue work. By increasing the range of motion through lengthening the muscles. It breaks down and reduces adhesions also. These two in part will improve your motion, reduce your pain and or swelling and edema while helping to restore basic functionality.

Mobility Improvement

The method I will primarily use is a technique called Post-Isometric relaxation (PIR). This utilizes an isometric contractual phase followed by an assisted gentle stretching of the same muscle or muscle group.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is in the alternative medicine catatory. This method of manual therapy is used to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing muscles that remain in a contracted state. This method will improve blood flow and lymphatic circulation while stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles.

Preventative Medicine

I will develop and supervise a comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation plan. I will use my expertise of sport performance and movement to address dysfunctions. I will use all means necessary with a variable array of therapeutic modalities.
